TRAWLER COLLIDES WITH DREDGE
isPIUAL 'lO IUE I'lUSs.i GREYMOUTH, October 15. Many people were attracted to the edge of the Greymouth wharf at the eastern end shortly after 5 o'clock this evening by a report that the trawler Nile-had broken away from her moorings. When the vessel was seen to have a considerable list, and to strike her bow against that of the dredge Mawhera, colour, was lent to the report However, what actually occurred was that after the vessel had taken in bunker coal on one side, it became necessarv to bring the other side of the Nile against the wharf, in order to complete the bunkering on that side. As the Nile was being turned, one of the lines gave way, and when-she swung the bow seaward, it collided with the dredge Mawhera. Although she immediately threw out the anchor, the Nile remained in an awkward position, her stern bumping the wharf until a line was run aboard from the trawler Waitohi. The Nile was.toiyed stern foremost well clear of the.Mawhera, and subsequently restored to her normal mooring position, and the bunkering was completed. No damage resulted from the mishap. There wat a good fresh in the river at the time.
