FARMER THROWN FROM HORSE A FRACTURED SPINE Mr C. Rossiter, a farmer of Oxford, was thrown from his horse late on Wednesday evening in the Ashley Gorge and suffered a fractured spine. He was taken from the Oxford Hospital to Christchurch yesterday morning by the St. John Free Ambulance and is now at the public hospital.

SCHOOLBOY BADLY INJURED

Laurence Henry Phelong, aged 11 years, who lives in Amberley, was injured in the grounds of the Amberley public school yesterday about lunch time, and after being tended by Dr. T. T. Thompson, of Amberley, was brought into the Lewisham Hospital by the St. John Free Ambulance. He is thought to have a fractured spine.

BROKEN LEG Thomas Holland, of 21 . Marshall street, was treated as an out-patient at the public hospital yesterday afternoon for a fractured leg received at the Opawa School. He was afterwards taken home by the St. John Free Ambulance.

FALL FROM BICYCLE Mr A. J. K. Johnston, of Auckland, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital in a dazed condition last evening. He had been riding along Colombo street when the wheel of his bicycle caught in the tramlines near the intersection of Battersea street. He was suffering from head injuries, but his condition was reported last evening to be satisfactory. HEAD INJURIES Mrs Anderson, who lives in, Selwyn street, was picked up by the St. John Free Ambulance last evening at the Antigua street railway crossing suffering from injuries to her face and hands.. She had been riding in the side-chair of a motor-cycle when it struck a post. SEVERE CUTS ON ARM Douglas Le Compte, aged 16 years, of 51 Montreal street, while sparring in Hazeldean road last evening, slipped and pushed his arm through a window. He received four severe cuts on an arm and was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by the St. John Free Ambulance. RAILWAY PORTER INJURED (PEEBB ASSOCIATION TKLEOBAM.) HASTINGS, October 11. A crushed chest and ribs were sustained by a railway porter, Richard Steele, at Takapau this afternoon. During shunting, the buffers on two waggons overlapped, and Steele stepped in to remedy the defect, being squeezed between the two waggons. He is progressing satisfactorily in hospital at Waipukurau.
