AMERICAN FEARS OF JAPAN
Hl(. MILITARY HIGHWAY PLANNED WASHINGTON, August 20. Indications that America is planning to meet any attack that Japan may make on the Pacific Coast are multiplying. The transfer of 1300 tons of minted gold from San Francisco to Denver is now being followed by plans to build a great military highway from the borders of Washington State and British Columbia, through Canadian territory, to Fairb?rl:s (Alaska). The road will be maintained by the United States, and landing fields will be constructed at intervals along it. The War Department is establishing an aeroplane base at Fairbanks, and recently sent fleets of aeroPlanes there. The land machines flew across Canada, while the navai units flew up the Canadian coast. The British Columbia Government warmly supports the scheme. a nd the Dominion authorities arc expected fo agree.
