REVALUATION WILL NOT BE GENERAL

♦ STATEMENT BY MINISTER No general revaluation of land is 1 o take place, according to a statement made yesterday to a representative of "The Press" by the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister for Lands. Mr Ransom said that borough and county revaluations were proceeding steadily in many parts of the Dominion or had been concluded; but, speaking generally, changes had not been great. No revaluation over the whole Dominion was anticipated. A principal difficulty was that of staffing. Even if many more valuers were engaged the increase in the clerical staff would have to be great to handle the business with any speed. A general speeding up of work in the Valuation Department had been effected; but it was impossible at present to consider any large increases m staffing. Mr Ransom added that the provision in legislation passed last year giving objectors to valuations the right to offer property for sale at their own valuations, had worked satisfactorily. There had been no general use of the clause.
