APPLICATION FOR INJUNCTION
COMPANIES PROMOTION COMMISSION ! THE GROUNDS ALLEGED The application l'or a writ of injunction against the Companies Promotion Commission to restrain it from proceeding with its enquiry. : which has caused the chairman (Mr j J. S. Barton, S.M.) to postpone the i sittings until further notice, alleges that because of his declared views, a member of the commission, Professor 11. Belshaw, lias placed himself in the position in which he has prejudged the matters likely to be brought before the commission. A further ground of objection, it is stated, is that Mr F. E. Graham, another member, by virtue of his membership of the Christchurch Stock Exchange and as a shareholder in the Christchurch Stock Exchange, Limited, may be prejudiced concerning parties and matters likely to be reviewed. For a third ground, it is stated that the application alleges that the commission is ultra vires so far as its enquiries relate to companies, in that there is no proposed legislation, which, the applicants contend, is a necessary prelude.
