♦ (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 11) ASHBURTON RAM FAIR EXCELLENT CONDITION OF SHEEP TOP PRICE OF 13] GUINEAS The excellent condition of the sheep in comparison with last year, when most of the rams were in poor order owing to the drought, was a feature of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual ram fair held on the Ashburton Showgrounds yesterday. The entries totalled 881, compared with 1210 last year and 1303, which was a record, in 1932. The predominating breed was Border Leicester while there were far more Southdowns entered than usual. Shropshires fell oil considerably on last year's entry. The sale dragged very much at the opening and many pens were passed in and although no fancy prices were paid, the values were up to some extent on those of last year. The top price was 13Jgns. for a two-shear English Leicester stud ram sold by Mr R. J. Low (Highbank) to Mr Walter Letham tLauriston'. Mr Low also sold a one-snear Southdown stud ram to Mr John Watson (Pendarves) for lOgns. In the flock rams the best price was Tgns. for a one-shear Corriedale sold on account of Mr C. A. Cameron iMethven). In the same breed Mr p. G. Rickard (Riverside) obtained 6vgns. for three one-shear. Mr Cameron also made the best price of C:;gns. for two one-shear rams in the Southdown section. Among the English Leicesters the highest price was Ggns. for one one-shear entered on account of Mr Low.

There was a small attendance during the early part of the sale, but towards the end there was a considerable improvement, and most sections of the Ashburton county were represented. The principal sales were as follows:

SALE AT STIiDHOLME JUNCTION keen market for vol ng SHEEP There was an array uf 15.000 idieen at the annual Wnimate cv.c i'alr ai Studholme Junction. The market was keen for young sheep, particularly for any show ins; quality, but for older sheep the market was slack and prices for these were not up to recent rates. The highest price was for a line of (>G two-tooth ewes sold by Dalgety and Company, Ltd.. 0:1 account of a client, to Mr A. V. Pilchards, Waihao Down?, 35s 8d being realised. The price cf 31s and over was obtained for a number of lots of good quality two-tooths sold by the various firms.
