UNFAIR COMPETITION ALLEGED
BOOT REPAIRERS' COMPLAINT Criticism of the action of the Hospital Board in using its splints department to compete against private firms was expressed by members of th« Christchurch Footwear Repairers' Association last night. The secretary, Mr J. Hutchinson, reported that a letter had been sent to the Christchurch Hospital Board protesting against the board's action in giving the work from the Waltham orphanage to its own department, whereas previously the work had been done by a private firm. Exception was taken to the attitude of the board in thus competing with private firms. A reply was received from the board stating that the association's letter would be considered at its next meeting. The action of the secretary was endorsed and it was agreed to discuss the matter further when the board's reply was received.
