ST. JOHN FREE AMBULANCE

TO THE XDITOJI Or THE I'RTSS. Sir,—l was interested to read the discussion by the committee of the St. John Free Ambulance, one member stating that the treatment by some member.* of the public Was nothing short of scandalous. Other speakers stated that the word "free" would soon have to be taken off the ambulances. As a member of the public I should like to remind the committee that the word "free" is a recent innovation, following on a rival organisation which particularised in" its "free" ambulance. The St. John "free" ambulance followed suit. Since then the St. John has had the major proceeds of an art union, an extensive house to house canvass for funds, and, furthermore, a successful street day. If with all those funds the ambulance cannot carry on, why not let the public know what it is expected of them to pay; but do not | let; us be misled jn the word "free."— I Yours, etc., OBSERVER. j February S, 1934. ! .
