NEW ARCHDEACON APPOINTED
♦- Hi:\. A. C. T. I'l RCHAS, OF RANGIOUA The Bishop of Christchurch announced last evening that the Rev. A. C. T. Purchas, vicar of Rangiora, had accepted an appointment to the archdeaconry of Rangiora and Westland, left vacant by the appointment of Dean Julius as Archdeacon of Christchurch. Mr Purchas was educated at Christ's College and Canterbury University College, where he was a
theological student at College House. He graduated B.A. in 1912 and M.A. in the following year. He was ordained in 1014. He was acting curate at Geraldinc from 11)14 to 1916, being admitted to the priesthood in 1915. In 1917 he was appointed Chaplain of Christ's College, a position he held until 1919, when he became acting-vicar of Hokitika. He was vicar of Hokitika from 1921 to 1924, and of Akaroa from 1924 to 1928. His next appointment was as vicar of Lyttelton and Port Levy, a position he held until 1932. Since 1930 he has held the position of Rural Dean and he has been vicar of Rangiora since 1932.
