GIRL OF 12 "A BORN FLYER"
LORD LONDONDERRY'S DAUGHTER Lady Mary Vane-Tempest-Stewart, daughter of Lord Londonderry, Minister for Air, who is only 12, is able to take control of an aeroplane, but until she is 17 she will not be allowed to hold a pilot's certificate. Her instructor is Captain V. H. Baker, who taught Lord Londonderry and another daughter. Lady Margaret, to fly. . „ , . . "Lady Mary is a born flyer, he said, "and handles an aeroplane like an old stager. Naturally, we go up together in a dual control machine, but f do nothing except sit still and enjoy myself. "She takes off and lands," ho added, "and is never so happy as when she is sending the machine over m a loop or nose first in a spin towards the ground. Stunting, she says, is like riding a bucking broncho." W.E.A. SOCIAL A social evening was spent by the students of the Workers' Educations! Association in the association's rooms on Saturday. The programme consisted of dancing, vocal, and elocutionary items and community singing. Songs were given by Mr A. Macquarne, Mr J. Cormick, and Mr Geo. Manning. Mrs W. C Collins contributed a humorous recitation. Mrs A. Macquarrie played the accompaniments, and Mr P. E. L. Broad the dance music. Mr G. Campbell was master of ceremonies. Supper was served by the ladies' committer
interest and help in institute activities. The new constitution was read by th eescrctary, Mrs G. B. Couch, who reminded members that the annual meeting would be held next month. Dr. E. W. Hunt gave an interesting talk on "The History of Medicine," for which he was cordially thanked. A competition, birds' names, was won by Miss Lewton, and a second competition, in making a duchesse set from a yard of britwny. was won by Mrs W. '.T. Kemp, with Miss Patterson second. Mrs R. F. Pilkington was the accompanist for the singing, and the hostcssßß were Mesclamcs H. bcnnelle, F. B. Gilbert and G. Goulden, and Miss E. Kemp. IWREORA The monthly meeting of the Parcora Women's Institute took the form of a picnic. The weather was ideal. Mrs L. E. Williams, president of the district federation, gave an interesting talk on the general work of institutes, and was accorded a vote of thanks.
