EXHIBITION IN CHRISTCHURCH NELSON CATHEDRAL IN MINIATURE Of the models to be shown at the town planning and housing exhibition, which is to be opened in Christchurch next Friday, it is anticipated that considerable interest will centre in that of Nelson Cathedral. Information was received yesterday by the committee of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Institute of Town Planning that the Nelson Cathedral authorities had consented to lend the model which is expected to arrive in Christchurch early next week. The model is sft long, 2]ft wide, and 2Jft high.

In all more than 20 models of buildings, and town planning schemes will be Shown, and in addition to that of Nelson Cathedral there will be one of Lyttelton Harbour, 10ft by 6ft, and another of Banks Peninsula of similar dimensions. There also ■will be models of Bishopscourt, Christchurch, the Nurses' Home, the Methodist Orphanage, and of modern dwellings exhibited by practising architects.

Amongst the plans of photographs to be on view will be a scheme for park development in Perth, Western Australia, and a number of photographs forwarded by the Australian National Travel Association. O? special interest •will be the aerial photographs, one of the methods of illustrating town planning. In addition to aerial photographs of New Zealand cities, there will be similar photographs of Sydney. Melbourne, and Adelaide.

It is noteworthy that already some of the schools are showing interest in the exhibition, and it is expected that it will be visited by many pupils from the city's suburban schools. The exhibition, which is to be held in a part of the premises of the D.1.C., will be formally opened by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, February 16. On the Monday following it is expected that the delegates from the North Island who will be on their way to attend the .conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers at Dunedin will visit the exhibition.

The exhibition has been promoted by the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Town Planning Institute, in conjunction with the architects' and surveyors' institutes, and the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers.
