DANGEROUS DRIVING

NAVAL MAN I.OSES LICENSE

Assocnrio* BLENHEIM, February 7. Described by the magistrate (Mr T. E. Maunsell) as a "nautical road hog," Sub-Lieutenant R. A. Kidston, R.N., on charges of dangerous driving on the Picton road on Japuary 2, was fined £2O, had his license cancelled, and was disqualified from obtaining another for two years. A witness said that defendant drove the racing car at 60 to 70 miles an hour, and crashed into a ditch. The car was replaced on the road, but less than a mile farther on was again ditched, going altogether too fast. Replying to the magistrate, witness said defendant was sober, but evidently expected a straight road, whereas actually it was full of curves. The magistrate: "We must put a stop to this gentleman. We are not going to have him driving about the country like this." The police said that defendant had substantial means, and a fine was no deterrent. ■

The magistrate cancelled the license as well as imposing a £2O fine, and disqualified defendant from obtaining another for two years.
