CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE

YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS Markets continued firm and active on call to-day and there was a large turnover with heavy trading in Bank shares, Breweries, and Lyells. Prices of several stocks showed improvement on late rates. Transactions, exclusive of vestibule business, were:— Sales on 'Change.

Commercial Bank of Australia shares, cased to 17s Bd, market closing Id on either side—the preference realised L.) .is and late offers at that price failed to attract sellers. E„ S., and A. Lank snares moved up to £5 17s Gd. Bank of New South Wales eum dividend were firm at £33 2s Cd and A-.ws ss, and these were buyers' and sellers' closing quotations respectively Bank of New Zealand were steady at 50s 9d, but eased at the close to 50s 4d sellers. Union Bank of Australia remained at £lO Is, and there were further sellers at £lO.

Australian Provincial Assurance changed hands at lis Id and lis 2d. Buyers of New Zealand Insurance cum dividend raised their bids to 59s without attracting sellers. Dalgetys were easier. with sellers and business at £lO 7s. Goldsbrough, Morts were weaker at 34s 3d, 34s 2d, and 345. United Building Society rose to 20s. Canterbury Frozen Meat were dealt in at £9 15s, and more were offered at that, price. N.Z. Refrigerating 10s paid shares eased to 8s Id and sellers of the fully paid came down to 18s 3d. Westport Coal shares were firmer on buyers' offers, 15s Id.

New Zealand Breweries ranged from 41s to 41s 3d, and more were offered at 41s. Staples Brewery shares cum dividend of 6d a share were firm at 30s. Timaru Brewery 7s 6d paid shares had business at 5s lid. Tooths Brewery shares advanced to 44s 9d. 44s 7d, and 44s Bd, and more were wanted at 44s 9d. Dominion Fertilisers realised 17s Id. ! Dunlop Rubbers declined to sellers and dealings at 20s 3d. Electrolytic Zinc ordinary were fractionally firmer with buyers and business at 27s 3d. Mount Lyells showed an easing tendency with dealings at 25s 6d and 25s 4d. and further sellers at the lower price. Alexander (13s Cd) paid shares were j easier with business at 15s fid. Glenroy I were a shade firmer at Rid. Golden j Point remained unaltered at 3|d. Mahakipawn were steady at 2d. Nevis Diesel Electric were a shade firmer lat Is. New Cornish Point Bd paid were j steady at 7d. Waihi Grand Junction were fractionally firmer at 5s Id. Waitahus were firm at 5s 9d. Unlisted Stocks.
