RECOGNITION OF SLANG
♦ EXAMPLES IN OXFORD DICTIONARY LONDON, November 24. The great Oxford English Dictionary, considered the supreme authority on the language, has "gone Hollywood." In its latest 900-page supplement the editors include a large number of American words and phrases which, introduced in America mainly through the "talkies," have passed into common usage. Examples are "debunk," "bump off," "wow," "wisecrack," and "taken for a ride."
