CRICKET

GATE RECEIPTS PI.UNKET SHIELD MATCH The gross takings at the gates for the Olago-Cantcrbury cricket match ni. Lancaster Park were £432 10s, as compared with £540 when the two provinces last met in Christchurch two years ago. The figures were made up of £IOB on Saturday, £l5B 10s on JV-'>w!siy. £llis on Tuesday, and on Y. ■, when the gate-charges ■w • w reduced in the afternoon, £4B. A of this will go to the Lan- <"> Board of Control as in! rent, and the expenses of the ; l i'ju!rl recount for another £125. 'i'inoi profits of about £2OO will be f.!. -; il.'tiird among the Canterbury ( i , !;: i Association, the Otago Cricket A: chtio-i, and the New Zealand C'v'.'i'ot Council. When the lower charges. the issue of passes to the unemployed, and the changeable weather pre taken into account, the lower total than that of two years ago is not surprising. Much more than the net profits of the match will be absorbed in the cost of the Canterbury team's northern tour.
