THURSDAY. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) FALSE PRETENCES ALLEGED. Arthur John Rogers, a clerk, aged 28, oi Barbadoes street, who was charged with attempting to obtain with intent to defraud goods and money to the value of £5 from J. Sharman and Sons, by means of a false cheque, was remanded until February 3. Bail of £IOO with two sureties of £SO each was granted. FOURTH CONVICTION. Mary Agnes Vaughan, aged 57, of Canal Reserve, who appeared for the fourth time within the statutory period of six months, charged with drunkenness, was sent to gaol for one month. REMAND GRANTED. A charge of breaking and entering by day the house ot Louisa Mary Rugg, in Antigua street, on December 24 and committing theft was brought against Sydney George Smith, a taxi-driver, aged 33, of Antigua street. Chief Detective W. H. Dunlop said accused had been arrested only on the previous day, and he asked for a remand until January 9. This was granted, but when accused asked for bail the chief detective requested that it be made substantial. It was alleged, he said, that goods to the value of £59 had been stolen, while only about £3O worth had been recovered. Bail was fixed at £2OO with two sureties of £IOO each.
