CAMPING PLACES

DUTY OF MOTORISTS AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION'S ADVICE "With the great development of motor camping and picnicking there is an urgent necessity to draw the attention cf motorists and their friends to their duties toward the official and unofficial camping spots throughout the Dominion." says the Canterbury Automobile Association in its latest message to the roa.l-using public generally. Through the elTorts of motoring organisations, a chain of official camping places has been set aside, sometimes at considerable expense, for the benefit of members of associations and clubs. The associations are justly proud of this service, and they are jealous in guarding the rights of' those who use the areas set aside. Motorists and others can best assist themselves and the clubs they belong to by observing the amenities of camping and picknicking. They should use the official fireplaces, and make sure that all rubbish is buried or burned. In lighting fires, campers should make sure that bush and pasture land are not endangered, and the utmost care should be shown in making sure that ail fires are extinguished before leaving camp. "Native or other live trees should not be cut down or damaged for firewood, and adults should see to it that they and their children do not despoil the bush areas of plants, flowers, and shrubs. Care should be taken not to trespass on private property. In many districts land owners have fenced off areas which used to be available to campers and picnickers. That action has followed the carelessness of motorists and others. All those who camp or picnic should leave the ground as they would like to find it. Play sale with fires and play the game wherever you might go."
