The volume of business recorded on the Stock Exchange during the last week shows a decided drop compared with the number of transactions of the previous week. On the whole, however, the demand for all lines has been well maintained. Bank of New Zealands turned over at £2 7s lid, £2 Bs, and £2 8s 4d. The offer at the close of the market was £2 Bs, sellers then demanding 7d more. The long D issue was also dealt in, £1 12s 9d being realised. The shares continue to have enquiry at £1 12s 3d, but sellers have failed to respond. Union Banks changed hands at £9 16s. A later offer of 2s less found sellers firm at £9 17s 6d. Business in National Insurances at 19s Id was followed by further offers of 19s, the best selling quotation at the close of the market being 19s 3d. There has been a fair amount of interest in Goldsbrough, Morts, which were sold at £1 lis 2d. The demand has since increased to £1 12s 3d, sellers asking 9d more. Ordinary Wright, Stephensons are now wanted at 17s 6d and preference shares at 17s. The former are obtainable at 19s, the latter at 18s 9d. Paid-up New Zealand Eefrigeratings are wanted at 19s 9d, a margin of 6d separating buyers and sellers. The contributing shares have a buyer at 9s 7d, and a seller at 9s 9d. The demand for Dominion Fertilisers has continued to improve. There has been business at 16s 9d, and 16s 7Jd. By the close of the market 18s 2d was being offered, but HQ seller came forward. Deben-

tures also have shown an improvement, £lO2 being offered, sellers asking £lO4. Waihis have continued in demand, the closing offer being £1 6s 10d, with a seller in the market at £1 /s 3d. Okaritos are now to be had for 9s 9d. No offers have recently been made. Waitahus, after having business at 5s 4d, eased somewhat. An offer of 4s lOd at the close of the market found sellers firm at 5s Id. Freshfords sold at 2d, and are still available at that figure. The best offer at present is Is ljd. Nokomais continued to ease. A little business was done at 3s Id and 3s, and shares are now on offer at 2s lid. Bell Kilgours changed hands at is ljd, Is Id, and Is. They were on offer at the last figure when the market closed, the buying quotation being llid. There was a sale of Bell Hoopers at 10Jd, and they are now being asked for at lid, with a seller forward at llid. The only business done in Government loans was in 4 per cent, stock, 1955, parcels of which changed hands at £lO2 and £lO2 ss.
