A HUMAN FAILING

TO THE BDITOB OP TEE PEESS. f Sir,—Your sub-leader of December 8 brings in a line of thought with regard to the crowd or mob. This action or impulse is ingrained in the human, and so is greatly traded upon by social leaders and politicians; same to catch votes, others to put dust in the eyes o£ the people to cloud the issue. The people are the mob, they are like sheep only want leading or driving, so we have mobocracv. democracy, republic, and commonwealth. The Government is supposed to represent the people, but does it? Far from it. Vested interests and other forces control and hold the reins of government. Take our savings bank as an instance. The people as individuals place their money in the savings bank. They receive their interest on the deposit and their money is secure. This letter is nothing against the savings bank, only an illustration of mobocracy. Now collectively investors in the bank receive their due interest. Then what does the bank do with the money? The bank lends it out at a' higher rate of interest to pay its working expenses. This money is vised mostly by the Government, and the Government represent the people, so the people are lending it to themselves, or the mob. Then the Government taxes them to make up the interest to pay the savings bank, so it is a very poor business for the mob. As individuals it seems quite right.— Yours, etc., OBSERVER. December 8, 1933.
