HOSPITAL PATIENTS' AGES

TO THE EDITOR OP THE -BESS Sir.-r-I was pleased to read that at the last meeting of the Christchurch Hospital Board Mrs Bean expressed her intention to move in the direction of having patients' ages omitted from their head-cards in future. Assuming that the patient's age is Stated merely for the information of the doctor attending a case, surely it is just as easy for j*>m to ask the patient that question as it would be

if the latter were consulting the doctor privately. Apart from Mrs Bean's motives, why should nosey fellowpatients and every stranger passing through a ward be enabled to know the patients' business? Patients pay their way, or should do so, and should have the option of requesting that this be omitted. So good luck to Mrs Bean's efforts.—Yours, etc., EX-PATIENT. November 28, 1933.
