+ INCREASE IN NOTE ISSUE POSSIBLE PRIME .MINISTER'S SPEECH (Received November 21, 11.57 p.m.) OTTAWA, November 21. The gold reserves of Canada are sufficient to allow a material increase in the Dominion's note issue without violating the principle that currency should be supported by 25 per cent, of gold adopted by the World Economic Conference, the Prime Minister, Mr R. B. Bennett, explained in a speech last night, intimating that this method might be used to meet the needs of the Dominion, but in such a manner as not to injure credit at home or abroad. He gave a definite assurance that legislation setting up a central bank would be submitted next session, and intimated that the Government was seriously considering ; an extensive public works programme next spring.
