DEPARTMENT'S ANNUAL REPORT _____ i [From Our Parliamentary Reporter..! WELLINGTON, October .17. The Immigration Restriction Amendment Bill, of which notice was given in the House of Representatives today by the Minister for Finance (the lit. Hon. J. G. Coates), extends for one year the provisions of the Amendment Act of 1935,, which expires on December 31, 1933. This act gives power to the Governor-General-in-Council to prohibit or restrict the entry into New Zealand of any specified nationality or race, or of any specified class or occupation. It provides that no person shall land in New Zealand unless he has a permit granted by the Minister. The annual report of the Department of Immigration, which was tabled in the House to-day, shows that the number of assisted immigrants has fallen from 11,239 in 1926-27 to 56 in 1932-33, and the number of full fare immigrants from 3705 to 570 over the same period.
