KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiai r.oi Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor iMr W. H. A. Vickery), Crs. A. E. | Erown, C. M. Williams, J. Hirst, F. Thorne, J. W. Barnard, H. Rinaldi, E. Gray, J. D. Williams, and A. Linklater. The secretary of the Waimakariri Harbour Board wrote enclosing the programme of entertainment arranged for the visit of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve cutter Deveron, and asked if the council would assist in providing tea for the sailors on Saturday evening. It was decided to assist in the entertainment programme. Mrs M. Dunnage (Christchurch) wrote applying to lease section No. 5 at the Kairaki Beach reserve. The application was granted. The director of the Kaiapoi technical classes applied for a continuation of the council's annual grant of £lO towards the class funds. A grant of £ 10 was made. The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children wrote asking if the council would assist in the annual appeal for funds to carry on the work of the society. A grant of £1 Is was made. Messrs Papprill, Son, and Corcoran wrote forwarding the lease of section No. 11 at Kairaki Beach reserve, to Mrs Edwards, Christchurch, for the council's approval and execution. The lease was approved. The secretary of the Kaiapoi Pines Beach Association wrote forwarding a copy of the association's annual bal-ance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £lO9 7s sd, and an excess of assets over liabilities of £487 19s. The secretary of the Canterbury Roadside Beautifying Association, Christchurch, wrote asking if the council would assist the association in beautifying the roads in New Zealand: by the planting of trees. On the recommendation of the baths committee, Mr J. Drabble was appointed caretaker of the public baths, at a retaining fee of £lO for the season, together with 121 per cent, commission on moneys collected by him.
