SALVATION ARMY
STREET APPEAL ON FRIDAY The Salvation Army, in making its annual appeal on Friday next, will give the citizens of Cbristchurch an opportunity to contribute towards an urgent and useful work. The funds raised by this appeal will be used in the charitable work undertaken by the Army for the relief of distress. Never before in the Salvation Army's history has there been so urgent a call fo: help. Owing to the increased and insistent call of the less fortunate ones, the demands upon the Army during the year have been more severe than ever before, but fully recognising its responsibilities, the Army has extended, rather than lessened, its activities. Working almost night and day, and utilising all available resources in ail branches of its religious and charitable efforts, the Army has retained its reputation for doing the utmost possible with every shilling entrusted to it. For the street stalls on Friday, fruit, cake, vegetables, jam, etc., are required, and those able to contribute in this direction are asked to leave their parcels at the Army's headquarters, Regent buildings, Cathedral square. More collectors are still required, and those willing to act for an hour or more on Friday are asked to ring telephone 36-516.
