THE RAIN

WELSH SHEEP "ROUND-UP." The annual drive of mountain sheep in progress in Wales. Farmers and shepherds combine in the drive to the dipping stations, where the sheep are dipped under the supervision of the police officer.

BENEFICIAL DOWNFALL The rain over the week-end was sufficiently heavy in most districts to confer a good deal of benefit. It varied from slightly under half an inch on the plains to just under an inch towards the hills. At Darfleld the falls aggregated 93 points and on the plains 46 points. The light country is still dry, but the inch fall has invigorated growth very markedly, and the fear in some districts of a repetition of the 1932 harvest has been almost entirely removed. Wheat crops in these areas are looking well at the moment. Pasture growth, however, is still backward, the winds ofrsetting the benefits that would otherwise accrue from the rain. EXPORT OF CORRIEDALES SOUTH AMERICAN DEMAND The estate of the late H. T. Lit Lie, j Hawarden, this year has received numerous orders for stud Corriedalel rams for South American buyers. On account of the dry season, only a lim-1 ited number have been available for] export, and of these 20 stud two-tooth! rams are to be shiDped by the s.s. I Kia Ora at the end of October to the order of an Argentine breeder. A further consignment, which includes four specially-selected stud rams, will be shipped in December to the order of another Argentine buyer. These sales were made by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd.
