WINftAWI NOTES

[THE PRESS Snccial Service.] DVNEDIN. October 17. The course nroner, with the trestles out, was available this morning for horses requiring fast work engaged at the Gore meeting. Grand Finale was on the course, looking very well, but did not work. He docs nearly all his galloping at MosTiel Park. Gcssler and Norman Conquest took lmin 21 l-ssec on the No. 3 grass track to run six furlongs, the former finishing in front. Master Anomaly was failing towards the end of five furlongs on the course proper in lmin 14 l-ssec. Ballanco was just in front of Salmo Salar at the finish of nine furlongs on I the plough in 2min 9 2-ssec. \ Tippling canteied a couple of cirI cuits on the plough, and then sprinted home three furlongs in 33 l-sscc. This looks particularly ivell just now. Roland was eased up in the middle stages of a four furlong sprint on the course proper, which occupied 57sec. Ventrac took lmin 9sec to run five furlongs on the plough, and was going well all the way. Reminder and Jaunt finished together at the end of six furlongs on the course proper in lmin 27sec. Palantua, looking very well, was not hurried to run six furlongs on the plough in lmin 22sec. Queen of Song gave Last Dance and a two-year-old half-sister to The Smuggler about four lengths start over half n mile, and then beat them home in 38 2-ssec. It was a particularly smart effort on the part of the first-named. Cbhota beat Jacobin over five furlongs on the course proper, in lmin Usee. Last Link ran half a mile on the same track in 57 3-ssec. Arden's Beauty ran six furlongs, aL-c en the course proper, in lmin 25see, but was stopping badly to-' wards the finish. Worship a.nd Kakara ran seven furlongs on the course proper in lmin 38 3-ssec, finishing strongly over the last three furlongs in 40sec. GoUant Fox was trotted on the plough track, and appears to be moving more freely than he did prior to the last Wingatui meeting. Later on he ran six furlongs with Cherry Queen on the same track in lmin 17 4-s=ec. Dressy ran seven furlongs on the course proper in lmin 40sec. This mare is rapidly returning to good racing condition. Rex. Beale was on the course this morning, and the damage he sustained to a shoulder when Captahfs Gift fell at Timaru is confined to the straining of some of the ligaments. Beale anticipates being able to ride at Gore next Saturday. Captain's Gift was in a bad way when he returned from the Timaru meeting, and the injury to a knee, caused by striking the hurdle, looks a serious one. It will be some days yet before 'the full extent of the trouble can be. ascertained 1 :
