PROGRESS IN AUSTRALIA 'PET-.."?! ASSOCJATiWf Trxf.ORAM.) WELLINGTON, October 1(5. The general manager of the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Board, Mr E. C. Hands, returned by the Marama from Sydney to-day after a brief visit to Australia. Mr Hands said one of the reasons for the trip was to see new studios erected at Newcastle by the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He had been very much impressed by them. The number of radio licenses was increasing rapidly, and was now on .the half-million mark. The commission was pursuing _ a policy of importing notable artists from abroad* and there appeared to be no doubt that its efforts to improve the standard _of programmes were appreciated by listeners.
