SALVATION ARMY'S APPEAL Owing to the heavy demands made this year on its social services, the Salvation Army asks for a liberal response to the annual self-denial appeal. For the finance to maintain its different activ + ies, the army has to rely to a large extent upon the generosity of the general public. No matter how down and out a human being may be, and no mattei how miserable his or her condition may be there is an ever-ready helping hand extended by the army s officeis and some relief is forthcoming. As with many organisations dealing with the relief of distress, extraordinary demands have been made upon the financial resources of the army this vear, and a great deal depends upon the public response to the street collection on Friday next to enable the army to carry on its charitable work. A number of street stalls will be conducted, and persons who can assist with gifts of cakes, flowers, jams, fruit., and vegetables, are asked to leave their parcels at the army's headquarters, Regent buildings, Cathedral square. Many more collectors are also required, and volunteers are asked to ring telephone No. 36-516.
