I.IBEUAL-LABOUR CANDIDATE ANNOUNCED (riIiSSS ASSOCIATION TELEGiIAiI.) NAPIER, October 14. Mr H. Lan Simson, a well-known resident of Hawke's Bay for many years, announces his candidature for the Buller seat at the coming by-election. He will stand as a Liberal-Labour candidate, basing his platform on the policy of Ballance and Seddon. Mr Simson has had considerable experience on various local bodies in the province. He formerly was mayor of Hastings, chairman of the Hawkc s Bay Rivers Board, and previously contested the Hawke's Bay seat in LiberalLabour interests. DISCUSSIONS AT WESTFOKT (rtIESS .ViSOUATION' 'I'ELEUEA.VI.) WESTPORT, October 15. A meeting of the Buller Labour Representation Committee was held ut Westport to-day to consider the successor to Mr H. E. Holland as member of Parliament for Buller. Interviewed, the Hon. Mark Fagan, who represented the national executive, said that certain decisions were reached and would be conveyed to the executive in Wellington.-Nothing, could be made public meantime. WEST COAST NOMINATION isi'txjAb ro Tin-: rnßsiO GREYMOUTH, October 14. At a special meeting of the Grey Valley Miners' Union on Saturday morning, it was decided to nominate Mr J. Smeaton, president of the United Mine Workers of New Zealand, and Mayor of Brunner, to contest the Buller seat in the Labour interest. Messrs A. McLagan, W. Purdy, and W Barber, also nominated, withdrew in his favour. The final recommendation to be made to the National Executive of the Labour party will be made by the Buller Labour Representation Committee, which will meet on Sunday evening.
