FASTER MAIL SERVICE
4. ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA BY AIR N.Z. CABINET MAKES A GRANT LFrom Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, October 15. The Cabinet at its meeting yesterday agreed to make a contribution of several thousand pounds towards the cost of the air-mail service which is about to be commenced from England to Sydney, via Karachi. Even without the final link in the service across the Tasman to New Zealand, it is estimated that if good steamer connexions can be made, air mail will reduce the period of transit from Britain by no less than 18 days. (Imperial Airways, Ltd., at present runs a regular service from England to Rangoon, which will shortly be extended to Singapore. Tenders have been called by the Australian Government for a service from Australia to Singapore, to connect with this, and it is anticipated that the whole service, England to Australia, will be in operation within a year.
