_ At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Spreydon public library, the following members were present: Messrs Jolly (chairman), Langford, Fehsenfeldt, Scouse, Jarden, Waters, Brown, Mcpherson, Mesdames Ryan, Marks, Thompson, Cottee, and Eaton. „„, The librarian reported that 1002 books had been issued, 748 subscribers had attended, and there were 43 new books, making a total of 3130 books on the shelves. There were 11 new subscribers, making a total of 159 on the roll. The treasurer's report showed that receipts for the month amounted to £29 10s 3d, including the halfyearly council subsidy of £l9 10s 6d. The sum of £7 was allocated for the purchase of books. It 'was decided to write to the authoress, Mvs E. Barrington, describing the new library and its situation in Barrington street, Barrington street being named after her. Mrs Eaton read a report of the social committee's efforts, and handed £2 to the treasurer for the purchase of books.
