DIOCESAN SYNOD

THIRD SESSION TO OPEN TO-DAY

Business of considerable importance will be discussed at the third annual session of the twenty-sixth Synod of the Christchurch Diocese, which will open at 4 p.m. to-day in the Provincial Council chambers. Finance will be considered in detail, and several new proposals will be debated, while the matter of the war memorial in the Cathedral grounds will also come up again. Mr E. H. S. Hamilton will move, on behalf of the standing committee, the annual appropriation, during the session, and Mr E. G. Hogg, on behalf of the Clergy Pension Trust Board, has given notice of two bills concerned with clergy pensions. Bishop West-Watson will deliver his address this afternoon, and Synod evensong will be held in the Cathedral at 8 o'clock, when the Rev. Charles Perry will preach. To-morrow morning members will be entertained at morning tea by Bishop and Mrs WestWatson, and the session will resume at 2.30 p.m. Archdeacon P. B. Haggitt and MiHamilton have been appointed a committee of hospitality for the session, and the wives of the Christchurch clergy, with assistance from parishes and the standing committee, will provide tea in the Art Gallery, Durham street, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 6.15 p.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 7.30 a.m. in the Cathedral each day the Synod sits.
