4* COMPETITION IN TASMAN UNDER DISCUSSION [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, October 10. The report from Australia that negotiations were being conducted between New Zealand and Australia towards counteracting the allegedly unfair competition of Ame-rican-owned steamship companies trading between the United States, New Zealand, and Australia was confirmed to-night by the Minister for Customs (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates).
Mr Coates said the subject had been under discussion within the last few days, but he could give no indication of the present state of the negotiations. "Australia is very much concerned about the position," said Mr Coates, "and so is New Zealand."
