THRESHING MILL WORKERS
«►- DISPUTE AGAIN ADJOURNED As the employers' assessors refused to agree to a definite clause being placed in the award about shifting time, a Conciliation Council representing the employers and workers in the threshing industry yesterday came to a deadlock. The sitting was the third held by the council, and the shifting time question was all that prevented an agreement. The employers offered to accede to the workers' request for Is 9d an hour as the basic wage and to pay for piecework at the rale of lis 6d for 1000 bushels for wheat and barley, and 15s 6d for oats. These rates, however, were contingent upon the employees consenting to forego a clause on shifting time. The assessors were:—For the employers .Messrs W. Bowman, H. Tallott J. Curragh, and A. L. Gray; and lor the employees, Messrs C. E. Baldwin, A. Cook, J. McGuire, and A. J Hamilton, with Mr J. Roberts - t q TU> n 4' Conciliation Commissioner, Jvir S. Ritchie, presided. It was finally decided to adjourn the ,^P" te die. but if neither side rfo, « the commissioner within five days that it wants a further silting the council will automatically lapse!
