j ST. MARTINS CLUB i At the annual meeting of the St. | Martins Tennis Club, the president, Mr A. W. McKay, was in the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of tfie late Mr Harvey, vicepresident, and of Mrs Maginness, a very old member, was carried. The annnal report and balancesheet showed a successful year. The officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr C. M. Ollivjer; president, Mr A. W. McKay; vice-presidents, Messrs Furze, Pope, Fi-aser, and Gallagher; club captain, Mr C. IV. Poore: vice-captain, Mr Fraser; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Hassall; auditor, Miss W. Bluett; committee, Messrs Gallagher. Fraser, Rusbridge, Mesdames Hassall, Sharp, Partridge, and Miss Gallagher. It was decided to hold the opening clay on Saturday. October 7.
j NEW BRIGHTON CLUB ! The thirty-ninth annual report of | the New Brighton Tennis Club, to be presented at the annual meeting on Wednesday, states that the season 1932-33 was very successful. The membership remained about the same for the season. The tournaments resulted as follows:—Men's championship singles, W. Hay; men's handicap singles, F. Heald; men's handicap doubles, w. Fowler and J. Weir; women's championship singles. Miss M., Hardie; women's handicap singles, Miss E. Tillyshort; women's handicap doubles, Misses D. Stevens and E. Tillyshort; mixed handicap doubles. Miss N. Hooker and B. A. Miles. Two successful tournaments were held, one in aid of the Wilding Park'fete, from which £1 6s was handed to the association. The report states that the financial position of the club is not as sound as in previous years, but since the subscriptions were reduced this is to be expected. The receipts for the year were £65 6s, and the expenditure £77 14s sd. There is a balance of cash in hand of £5 15s, and £45 6s 3d in the Post Office for the new courts trust fund. Two dances were held during the season, resulting in a net profit of £1 18s.
Two teams were entered for the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's competitions, one in the B grade, and one in the C grade, while a men's team was entered for the junior A inter-club competition. All teams performed creditablj'. The annual inter-borough match, which took place on the Sumner courts, resulted in a win for Sumner by a substantial margin, though most of the games were strenuously contested. j CHICAGO MATCHES j POSTPONED '.united rnr.ss apsocunox —by ki.kctjuc '1 ZLE (J lIA t' U— i; 01' Vlt IGI IT.)
