DANCES IN DUNEDIN TOWN HALL
NEW CONDITIONS IMPOSED ITHB TEESS Special Servico.] DUNEDIN, September 8. The whole question of liquor in the Town Hall and other licensed halls has been reviewed by the finance committee of the City Council, following representations made by a deputation from the Council of Christian Congregations and other organisations. The committee now proposes the following recommendations, to be applicable in the cases of all those hiring the Town Hall, the Concert Chamber, and other halls owned by the council where dancing forms part of the entertainment:— That any permit which may be issued for the consumption of liquor be restricted to a "claret cup," dispensed under strict supervision by the licensee. That in every case the hirers be requested not to permit the issue of "pass out" checks during the progress of the function. That the police be asked to exercise strict supervision over motor-cars parked within the vicinity of the hall. The committee further recommends that the proposals, if approved, apply also to all halls in the city which are licensed by the City Council.
