GOVERNMENT BEATEN IN RHODESIA
PREMIER DEFEATED CAPE TOWN, September 7. Salisbury reports state that the Rhodesian Government party was defeated at the elections by the Reform party. The Premier, Mr G. Mitchell, and the Colonial Secretary, Mr W. M. Leggate, lost their seats. The final state of the parties is: Reform 16, Rhodesian 9, and Labour 5. Mr I-liggins is the probable Reform Premier. The principal difference of policy is over the customs union, which the Reform party is likely to denounce.
