CHARGE DISMISSED
CRUELTY TO DOG ALLEGED ;PEESf ASSOriATTON rET.EGHAM ' AUCKLAND, September 8. "There is not the slightest evidence before me which suggests wanton cruelty to the dog, and the charge, therefore, is dismissed," said Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., after hearing evidence for two hours on a private prosecution. F. T. Danvers, an officer of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, was charged, on the information of Mrs Heron, with cruelty to a dog which was taken to the society's animal home on May 23. "It is extraordinary that such a charge concerning an alleged event in May should not come before me till September," said the Magistrate. "It looks as if the informant has been actuated by some other motive." The defendant was allowed costs.
