DEATH FROM BURNS
(PHESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) PALMERSTON N., September 8. At an inquest on Mrs Elizabeth Hausmann, of Shannon, who died in hospital following extensive burns, her husband said that she had been in illhealth for some time and had threatened to set fire to herself. On the morning of August 14 she appeared normal, but before breakfast she went out, and was later seen running toward the house with her clothes in flames. A constable said the woman made a statement in hospital setting out that she had been depressed and poured kerosene over her clothes and set fire to herself. After making the statement she was too ill to sign it. A verdict that Hausmann died from burns self-inflicted while mentally deranged was returned.
