SOLICITOR'S TANGLED AFFAIRS

NO BOOKS KEPT CRITICISM OF LAW (Received August 17, 8.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 17. Mr Claude Roach, trustee in bankruptcy, presenting his report to a meeting of creditors in the estate of Arthur Davies, solicitor, who committed suicide recently, disclosed a deficiency of approximately £50,000.

Davies' affairs were in a terrible state. No books were kept, not even a trust cash book or ledger. The only records of transactions were cheque butts. Mr Roach described this bankruptcy as. -one of the worst of its kind, a perfect example of what the law allowed. It did not even require that a persbn handling trust funds should keep proper books.
