| STOCK IMPORTATIONS. KMBAKGO TO CONTINUE. The Canterbury branch of the I New Zealand Friesian Association at a meeting held recently decided to forward the following resolution to , the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister '■ for Agriculture, in reference to i foot-and-mouth disease: — | "That, in view of the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth and other serious diseases overseas and con- ! sidering the present position here, ,' (a) That New Zealand is com--1 parativcly free of serious stock diseases, j (b) That New Zealand has a j growing trade in the export of live stock which would be seriously prejudiced by any outbreak of disease. <c> That New Zealand stud Friesians compare favourably in type and production with those in any part of the world and provide ample change of blood for any I breeder desiring it, the members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association record their emphatic protest against any relaxation of the conditions governing the admission of live stock to the Dominion." ! A reply has now been received ! from the Hon. C. E. Macmillan as : follows: — i "I have to acknowledge receipt I of your letter of July 13, and have i noted the views of your associa- '< tion on the subject of the removal 1 of the embargo which now exists I upon the importation of cattle 1 from countries in which foot-and-mouth disease is prevalent. Tn reply I desire to say that there is j no intention on the part of the Government to disturb existing conditions at the present time."
