LAKE ELLESMERE.
* PREPARING TO OPEN THE OUTLET. The Elleomcrc Land Drainage Board's tractors and dragline equipment have been liken to the beach at Fisherman's Point, Lake Ellesmere, in readiness for an attempt to open the lake outlet, the level having risen a good deal in the last monih. The fishermen at the point arc complaining of the board's decision to open the outlet at the usual place opposite the fishing settlement, notwithstanding a request made some time ago that the cutting should be made abeut hall a mile along the beach to the north-cast.. They state that the area opposite the point is one of the best on the lake for flounder hshing, ard that when the outlet is cut there the fishing is destroyed for a long time, causing heavy loss to the men engaged in that occupation. It is also asserted that during a recent visit to the lake, Mr F. Langbein, District Engineer for. the Public Works Department, stated that it would not cost much more lo make a cut at the site suggested. The shingle ban.t is higher though little if any wider than at the old site.
