DEPUTATION WAITS ON MINISTER.
SUGGESTION THAT SUSTENANCE BE PAID. iTREsS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 28. Proposals that the present relief scheme should be suspended and that sustenance should be paid and that the Government should arrange an immediate conference to evolve a national policy on unemployment were placed before the Minister for Labour (the Hon. A. Hamilton) to-day by a deputation from the National Union of Unemployed. The deputation also asked for the removal of several anomalies in the administration work of the Unemployment Board. The Minister said that he was always prepared to discuss freely and fully with a deputation questions affecting the unemployed and he would go into the matters raised by them. Incidentally, he remarked that, at present the board was allocating £IO,OOO or £II,OOO a week more than its average weekly income and that registrations were increasing.
