BUS COMPETITION IN PALESTINE.

When a fleet of smart new buses began to operate in Palestine on the route between Haifa, Jerusalem, and Jaffa the public patronised the new vehicles to the detriment of the older ones, and, as a correspondent tactfully puts it, the new buses proved so attractive that a number of collisions "occurred." Fortunately, the owners of the popular new fleet were in a position to maintain efficient servicing arrangements, so that these little incidents were not productive of serious delays on the route. The enterprising operators are using Commer Centurion buses supplied by Messrs Levant Agencies, the Palestine distributors for Commer Cars, Ltd. An extensive fleet is already in service, but additional vehicles have been found necessary, and further orders are now in hand at the Luton factory.

A road traffic bill, copied largely from the measure of the Imperial Parliament, but adapted to the island's requirements, has been finally passed through the Isle of Man Legislature and will become law. At present, under the Manx law, the roads of the island can only be closed for the motor-cycle tourist trophy races and the Manx Grand Prix motor-cycle races, but the Road Traffic Bill gives power to the Manx Highway Board to close the roads at any time without limit for the purpose of any kind of road racing.
