DANCE. This year the members of the Upper Riccarton and Sockburn Burgesses' Association departed from their usual custom of holding a social for members and their wives only, and instead they organised a dance. This proved so popular that in answer to numerous requests a similar function was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, and this proved even more successful than its predecessor. The members of the social committee of the association, Messrs J. Pascoc (chairman), F. T. Witty (hon. secretary), E. Evans, F. J. Collins, L. Storer, J. Lang, C. C. Harrow, and H. Purvis, made arrangements. Ashby's dance band supplied a programme of popular dance music. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Kathleen Hayes and Mr W. Taylor. The guest list included Mesdames J. Pascoe, F. T. Witty, J. Clarke, W. C. Thiele, F. Horwell, W. R. Thomas, G. H. Davis, R. Harris, C. Davis, W. Scobie. M. Roper, H. Purvis, C. C. Harrow, E. Evans, F. Harper, J. Bolds, Misses Dorcen Newnham, Clarice Witty, Kathleen Hayes. Ailsa Taggart, Maude Paterson, May Purvis, Dorothy Muir, Monica Pye, Nireta Paintin. Ada Blumsky, Irene Parkes, Maude Palerson, Irene Levin, Betsy Purvis, Mabel Taylor, Messrs J. Pascoe, J. Wadley, F. Bowman, J. Picket, F. Bowman, C. C. Harrow, E. Evans, H. Purvis, L. Storer, R. Coutts, E. Joyce, G. Ferguson. W. C. Thiele, N. Harris, E. Joyce, C. Mitchell, T. Anderson, L. James, and H. Windsor. Church Social. The annual social of parishioners of St. James's Anglican Church, to celebrate the patronal festival, was held in the Sunday schoolroom on Tuesday evening. The function was well attended and those present spent an enjoyable evening. The arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames R. Kingsford, W. Coad, Baxter O' Neill, R. Malcolmson, H. Whitta, and S. Wilson (members of the Ladies' Guild) The Rev. R. de Lambert
(vicar of the church) was master of ceremonies. A musical programme was contributed as follows:—Messrs M. Burt and F. Coussins, vocal solos; Miss Joan Omerod, violin solos; Miss ShirleyCook, piano solos; Mr R. Malcolmson, song. Letters of congratulation were read from Bishop West-Watson, the Rev. G. W. Dent, Sister Birchell. and Miss Vera Moffatt.
