__—+ LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. The executive oi the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association met las:, night. There were present Messrs F. L. Hutchinson (in the chair), C. S. McCully, J. Murphy, C. V,\ Rudkin. E. H. Marriner, P. G. Clements. J. W. Thomas, W. C. Fairbrother. S. H. Maddrcn, A. G. Cannons. E. Archbold. W. A. Bascand, E. P. Brown. R. EBerry, H. F. Seweil. M. B. Richards, W. A. Pattison, I. Woo If. S. Sherman. A. M. Hollander, C. H. Holland, F. W, J. Belton, F;. H. Webb, A. M. West, and H. B. Anderson. After a brief discussion in commiitee, the executive appointed a subcommittee, comprising Messrs E. Archbold, F. W. J. Belton. H. B. Anderson, I. Woolf, and R. H. Webb, to consider various reports on the proposed revised schedule of cb&cges for the inspection of machinery by tbe Marine Department. Reports on the schedule by three interested members of the executive were read to the meeting, which considered that the protest against high charges should be carried further. The sub-committee was instructed to take any evidence that was forthcoming, and tbe reports were laid on the table. Mr Belton was appointed convener. Tariff Commission. The chairman reported brieflv on the action ol" the Manufacturers'"Federation in interrupting their evidence before the Tariff Commission, on account of r statement made by the president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Mr W. J. Poison. M.P.). The substance of his report has already appeared in "The Press" in the f °nn of a statement by the federation. The Mighty Mit Company and the Apex Ice Company were admitted to membership. Several reports were made bv the Winter Show executive, covering the v/ork which has already been reported directly from the executive's meeting*.
