CONGRATULATIONS FROM NEW ZEALAND. | CABLEGRAM SENT TO J. E. LOVELOCK. I (MITI ASSOCIATION Tf.I.rGRAV.) i WELLINGTON, July 17. Mentioning to-day that the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association -was cabling its congratulations to J. E. Lovelock on his breaking the world record for the mile, Mr L. A. Tracy (the honorary secretary) said Loveiock attributed his success to the first-class competition he was able to get in England, and to expert I coaching. Although the achievement was not altogether unexpected, in view of the wonderful performances put up by Lovelock last season, said Mr Tracy, it was a great source of satisfaction to the association to find this sterling | athlete achieving so great an honour, and bringing (rush laurels to New Zealand. The hope of the New Zca- \ land Amateur Athletic Association is that Lovelock will retain hi? form for the Empire Games in London next ■ year. , The New Zealand Olympic and Brit- j ish Empire Games Association, at its annual meeting to-night, also decided 1 to send a cablegram to Lovelock con- ' gratulating him.

By a unanimous vote, the New Zenland Olympic and British Empire Games Association, at its annual meeting to-night, expressed itself as being strongly in favour of the Dominion being represented at. the British Empire Games in London next year. A letter is to be sent to the' governing bodies of each national association asking whether it will have representatives worthy to be sent, and to what extent it will be prepared to finance them. Mr H. Amos was re-elected chairman of the council.
