SOUTH ISLAND MOTOR UNION.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS. The executive committee of the South Island Motor Union met last evening. Present: Messrs F. W. Johnston (president, in the chair), W. It. Carey, G. Henderson, B. Falck, F. W. Freeman, J. S. Hawkes, R. H. Parker, H. C. Harley, and P. R. Harman (secretary) . The Railway Department wrote that certain hoardings objected to by the union were displayed under similar conditions to roadside signs in other parts of the Dominion, and the request that they be removed could not be acceded to. Mr Henderson said that a new sign had just been erected on private properly at the Dromore corner, near Ashburton. It was decided to a3k the affiliated clubs and associations to report on hoardings half a mile outside town and borough boundaries. At the quarterly meeting of the union in Dunedin last month it was decided that the executive committee be authorised to consider the production of a South Island map at a reasonable price and submit details to affiliated clubs and associations. After a discussion it was decided to refer the matter to a sub-committee.
Camping Grounds.
The secretary was instructed to write to the affiliated club 3 and associations asking them to forward any instances of abuses of camping grounds under their control. It was decided to recommend to the affiliated clubs and associations that non-members be not permitted to use camping grounds under the control of the associations. This was the text ot a remit to the quarterly meeting from the Marlboruogh Association, which was referred to the executive.
