SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs T. W. Satterthwaite (Elizabeth street) is visiting Christchurch. Mrs B. H. Howell ("Matata," Cave) left yesterday on a visit to her father, Mr George Rhodes, "Beverley," Christchurch. Mrs Gordon Lawson (Seaview terrace) has returned from a visit to Waimate. Mrs Holm, who was the guest of Mrs L. J. O'Conijell (,Elizabeth street), has returned to Dunedin. Recent guests at the Empire Hotel include Mr and Mrs A. S. Campbell, Miss Freeman (Dunedin), Mr D. E. PLUNKET SOCIETY. RICCARTON SUB-BRANCH. Mrs C. Chilton presided at the monthly meeting of the Riccarton subbranch of the Plunket Society, held in St. Ninian's schoolroom yesterday afternoon. Miss Merton reported having attended to 173 adults, 166 babies, and seven older children during the month. Mrs G. Ellis, Mrs T. B. Donnelly, and Mrs W. Wallace were appointed new members of the sub-branch. It was reported that the lantern lecture given by Mrs H. R. Smith in bklof sub-branch had-. resulted profit of £5 10s. Mrs Smith was ting cerely thanked for her help. ' s CARD PARTY AND DANCE. The fortnightly card party and dance under the auspices of the Papanui School Committee was held in the schoolroom, and proved very successful. Winners of the "flag 500" were Mrs Smith, Mr Lavender, and Mr McGuinness. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mr Hanes, Mrs Henderson, and Mrs Sandford. Novelty dances were won by Miss Gee and Mr Fielding and Mr and Mrs Nettleton. Mr R. Harrison (headmaster of the school) was pianist, and extras were played by Mr A. Carson and the Vagabond band VISITORS TO CHRISTCfiURCH. Hotel Federal: Mr E. Undrill (Geraldine), Mr D. K. Mullen (Sydney). Warner's Hotel: Mrs S. Douglas (Ethelton).
