HARMONIC SOCIETY.
TO-NIGHT'S CONCERT. The first of this week's concerts of the Harmonfic Society will be held at the Radiani Hall this evening, when Wallace's popular opera, "Maritana," will be presented for the first time in Christchurch for a number of years. The wellcknown music, with its favourite airs such as "Scenes that are Brightest" and "Let Me Like a Soldier Fall," is always welcome when presented again from time to time. The soloists are tried and experienced singers who may be relied upon to give an excellent performance, and the choir and orchestra, under tne baton of Mr V. C. Peters, will be at its best. The story of Maritana, it may be necessary to tell the younger generation, is laid in Spain, and its music is typical of the glamorous atmosphere of the Spanish court in the age of chivalry. The popularity of the opera is revealed by the public interest in its production, and the booking is already heavy. Patrons are therefore urged to attend to-night's concert, or if they wish to attend on Saturday, to book their seats in good time- The box plan is at Chas. Begg's.
